The Ultimate Amazing Race Group Date Review
Do you need a fun date night? This Ultimate Amazing Race Group Date is the perfect fun night out with your friends and special someone. For Valentines Day this year, I planned a great date for my husband and I with some of our close neighborhood friends. Thanks to The Dating Diva’s website, the date was practically planned for me. Their FREE print outs for the date, made planning a breeze.
Have you ever seen the show, The Amazing Race? It is a family favorite, one we can get into as a family, and see the world too. This date night is planned exactly like the show (except no Phil – the host – sorry he cannot come).
1st – I picked the day and txted my friends to make sure they could come.
2nd – I downloaded and printed the provided invitation and took it over to them. Everyone was so excited and they were grateful for the time off they didn’t have to plan.
3rd – I downloaded the whole packet from Dating Diva’s and sent it off to FedEX Office to print. I could have printed this myself at home, but I didn’t want to use all my ink. This part was a bit expensive, either way with my own ink or Fedex’s ink. I really didn’t anticipate it being so pricey to print, but for a date night, that is fairly cheep. Total I spent about $30 on printing and envelopes. I also had to buy balloons for one of the road blocks.
4th – I put all the road blocks and detours in envelopes and mixed them up, so each team had a different order to go in.
5th – I planned dinner. Before the big race, we had to fuel up, so I had each couple bring part of dinner. We had a Costco rotisserie chicken and baked potatoes and a salad. We then raced and came back for dessert of raspberry truffle.
Off we went to the races.
A fabulous critique-if I do say so myself
Make sure you do this Amazing Race in a city. This worked really well for us because all the challenges were within 1 mile or less of each other. We live in a very convenient place. The group that won happened to get all their challenges in the perfect order where things were very close to each other (with in a block or two).
One of the Amazing Race challenges is to get 15 tickets at the arcade. We have two arcades with a few blocks of each other, but one does not give tickets, this is one reason my husband and did not come in first. We stood in line to get money on our card to play games, but then realized we only get points on the card. So we drove to the next arcade. The team who won stayed and put points on their card. In the end the rest of the teams voted and agreed 15 points counts as 15 tickets. Never second guess yourself.
One of the Detour’s calls for a trip to the library. Our library closes at 6 on Saturday’s and we didn’t even start the date until 6:30, so on that challenge the teams could only choose 1 of the 2 options, this did make things easier.
One of the challenges calls for purchasing a XL slurpee from 7-11, then drink it. It did not say fill it full, then drink it. One teams took advantage of the slip-up and only filled it a 1/4 of the way full. At the end this team came in last so we didn’t give them a 10 minute penalty.
What a great time!
The team that won, took about 15-20 minutes, the team that lost took 45 minutes. If you are not living conveniently to all the stops, this date could take a long time, but that is not such a bad thing. It did feel kind of like an adult version of a scavenger hunt. We had a blast completing the tasks and all the teams said they had fun and they were grateful I put on a date for them.
Funny things that happened
We had a great time telling all the teams how we went about completing the tasks and all the funny mishaps or happenings, like the overly friendly 7-11 guy who got way into our game. Or the arcade guy to couldn’t do the math to give us the right amount tokens. My husband and I who did the classic Amazing Race team slip-up and second guessed ourselves twice (this totally cost us the win). Or the hotel guy who tried to sell our friends a timeshare (see the brochures she is holding in the picture), this made them come in last. We really had a great time eating together, and playing together as friends. I mean, when do adults really go on group dates? Actually, do you really date your spouse? I love the Dating Divas website, they are full of great ideas for dates, all the printable are free. This is such a great service they provide.
Thank you Dating Divas for this wonderful, fun date night. You can see there site and get all their free printable’s here. I give this a 4 nutshell rating. It was fun, but a few of the instructions needed clarification.
I found the raspberry truffle on this site. It was also wonderful and yummy. A simple treat – especially after we drank a slurpee. I also give this a 5 nutshell rating.
